More progress for Meenagh in final Para Nordic Skiing World Cup outing

on 09-02-2018 12:49

Solid cross-country performances mean Scott Meenagh left the final Para Nordic Skiing World Cup of the season in positive mood, with PyeongChang quickly appearing on the horizon.

The Brit – who earlier this week recorded two top-ten finishes in the biathlon phase of the World Cup – backed those up with 11th, 12th and 13th placings in the cross country.

Competing in Vuikatti, Finland, Meenagh, clocked a time of 28:16.3 in the middle distance freestyle sitting event on Tuesday – just missing out on a top ten place by six seconds as Neutral Paralympic Athlete Ivan Golubkov took the win.

After a rest day on Wednesday, the field returned for some sprint action on Thursday, with Meenagh qualifying for the semi-finals in 12th place, with a time of 2:11.22.

That saw him into the next round but the speedsters had too much for him and the Brit finished sixth in his semi-final, failing to progress to the final showdown – which was eventually won by Golubkov.

Friday brought the long distance sitting event, with Meenagh again in the top 15 as he clocked 53:57.3 to finish in 13th as Golubkov made it a hat-trick of cross-country wins for the week.

Meenagh’s fellow Brit Terry Ahrens finished 21st in the middle distance freestyle standing race and 20th in the standing sprint.

The week’s results should see Meenagh move up the sitting cross country and biathlon rankings from his current placings of 28th and 20th, respectively.
