Double silver at boccia European Championships
Great Britain had plenty to celebrate on day two of the boccia European Championships after clinching double silver.
Sunday saw the culmination of the pairs and team competitions and there were podium finishes for both the BC4 and BC3 in Povoa de Varzim.
Two-time Paralympian Stephen McGuire, Evie Edwards and Louis Saunders continued their strong form from day one to progress all the way to the BC4 Pair gold-medal encounter, where they took on hosts Portugal.
A tight match followed with the title decided on a tie break after the contest finished 3-3 – Great Britain having to settle for silver.
And there was the same colour for the Brits in the BC3 Pairs as Patrick Wilson, Jamie McCowan and Scott McCowan battled hard to make the final, beating Greece 5-2 in the semi-final before losing 11-0 to Russia.
Current world number one David Smith and his BC1/BC2 teammates Claire Taggart and Will Hipwell meanwhile did not progress out of their pool after suffering a 7-3 and 4-3 defeat to Russia and Slovakia respectively, and eventually finished seventh overall.
The European Championships continue today with the individual competitions.
